A new report released by The Council of Australian Government’s Reform Council (COAG) has revealed that Brisbane has the nation’s least affordable homes after Perth, with nine out of 10 people paying house prices that don’t match their incomes.
The report says only 9.8 per cent of Brisbane houses are affordable, second to Perth, which has only 5.5 per cent home affordability.
Also according to the report, in Brisbane "the typical home price was the same as Sydney" but there was not as much variety in the property market and "income levels were much lower than in Sydney".

The good news is there is still affordable housing in Australia. The bad news is that the suburbs are a short flight away from capital city centres.
Take for instance, Millgrove in Victoria. The median price for a home in that suburb is a relatively modest $218,500 with values rising 1.2 per cent in the year to January, according to RP Data.
But Millgrove, in the state's Yarra Ranges, is 61 kilometres from Melbourne's CBD.
In Sydney the most affordable suburb is Willmot with a median home price of $219,500. It's a mere 41 kilometres to the CBD, but prices ...

Homeowners can still negotiate a lower mortgage rate despite the upward movement in interest rates, according to Brisbane mortgage broker Arleen Bhairo.
The Reserve Bank of Australia’s decision to raise official rates for the first time in 19 months – from 3.0 per cent to 3.25 per cent – has brought an end to the low interest rate honeymoon for mortgage holders.
Mr Bhairo said consumers had the ability to take their interest rate destiny into their own hands and seek a lower rate now on an existing home loan.
“Many mortgage holders are on standard variable home loans with ...

Mortgage Brokers in Brisbane talk on the Brisbane Property Market.
New research suggest that the Brisbane property market, which has remained strong throughout the economic downturn, is set for an upswing after hitting a 'low' point.
Strong migration is a key reason behind the strength and predicted rise in Brisbane property.
The extension to the Boost in the First Home Owner Grant along with generous stamp duty exemptions in QLD is continuing to help first home buyers into the market.
Rental yields above the national average, along with the population boom, are also providing incentives for investors to ...
